Below is a list of the ten most highly rated venture capital portfolios on ChubbyBrain as of March 1, 2009.  To be considered for the list, the venture capital firm had to have at least 5 reviews of its portfolio companies by March 1, 2009.  These aggregate VC portfolio ratings are derived/calculated from reviews and ratings given to their individual portfolio companies by members of ChubbyBrain.  They are not direct ratings of the VC firm or of individual venture capital professionals who work at the firm.

Additionally, for the purposes of this analysis, we have only considered venture capital firms, e.g., angel investors, academic/university programs, incubators, etc which are also on ChubbyBrain have not been included.  We anticipate doing these types of analyses regularly and will slice the information and data contained on the platform in other ways that we think may be interesting or that you tell us would be of interest to you.  Of course, if you have ideas, please feel free to reach out to us at team (at) chubbybrain (dot) com.

We expect these names will change over time as more startups are reviewed on our platform.  Presently, we have over 800 reviews but as we have just come out of private beta just two weeks ago, we anticipate many more reviews driving these portfolio ratings in the future.  Members are asked to review these startups on various dimensions to provide an overall sense of the viability of these emerging companies, technologies and business models.
We actively moderate the reviews on the platform to prevent gaming.  We also require that members use their real names preventing anonymous inflation or deflation of ratings.  In cases where a member’s identity cannot be authenticated, their rating/review may be taken down or not counted in the company or VC’s aggregate rating.
Moreover, reviews and ratings by members are weighted differently based on various dimensions we calculate on an ongoing basis.  Roughly speaking, members who contribute consistent, quality insights will have their ratings worth more based on our algorithm.
