Freedom Photonics is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: Optical Transmitter for Inter-satellite Communications. The abstract given for this project is as follows: In this project, we propose to develop a rad hard, monolithically integrated widely tunable optical transmitter capable of operating at data rates of greater than 100Gbps, utilizing advanced multilevel modulation schemes. The transmitter will be developed using an Indium Phosphide monolithic integration platform, minimizing the size, weight and power of the module. The multilevel modulation scheme used provides the best bit rate scalability for lasercom satellite links.
Freedom Photonics is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: High-Speed and Low- Power Widely Tunable Laser for WDM Networks. The abstract given for this project is as follows: Increasingly sophisticated sensors and video links are being deployed on aircraft which is driving the need for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical backbones to support high bandwidth communications. We propose a novel, compact and very fast tuned tunable laser able to survive harsh environmental aerospace conditions.
Freedom Photonics is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: Innovative WDM Mesh Micro-network Connection for Avionics Networks. The abstract given for this project is as follows: We propose a reconfigurable Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) optical node suitable for mesh network connection and capable of providing fast switching speeds, bandwidth-to-weight ratio, with high connectivity, reliability and survivability.
Freedom Photonics is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: Terabit Per Second Optical Router for Space-Based Satellite Network. The abstract given for this project is as follows: Freedom Photonics proposes to utilize highly integrated photonic components to design and implement a space deployable optical router. This approach will allow for size, weight and power requirements to be met.BENEFIT:1000x increase in available bandwidth, with 50% volume, weight and power consumption. Significant commercial market in fiber optic transport systems of the next generation.
Freedom Photonics is a company that received a Department of Defense SBIR/STTR grant for a project entitled: Improved Self-Electrooptic Effect Devices for Optical Logic. The abstract given for this project is as follows: Freedom Photonics will investigate new paradigms for ultra-dense and ultra-low power processing electronics that exploit the capability of optical devices. In particular, novel optical gating technologies will be developed with the required robustness, size, power consumption and cascadability to support dense optical interconnects and optical routing with improved capabilities.BENEFIT:The optical ggate technologies developed within this program is expected to lead to new optical networking concepts with increased optical layer functionality. This technology is expected to lead to improved and simplified optical routing paradigms, well positioned for implementation in the emerging market of highly complex optical interconnect networks.
